My Story and Inspiration

How I found that I was a person who is an artist at heart and passionate about it happened by chance. I had always found going to museums fun and I was marveled by the artists whether it was photography, paintings, sculpture, architecture or even a garden. The vision that they possessed was inspiring. That inspiration remains.

At university is when I started my journey into creating imagery. I took photography, drawing, and acting classes during my last couple of years there. I fell in love with the process of "seeing", not just looking. Photography was my initial concentration. Then after a number of years, I started to explore painting. My Mom sent me oil paints for Christmas when I was living in Los Angeles. I had told her I was painting in classes I was taking at Otis/Parsons. I wasn't painting with oils! I had no idea how they worked. She said to bring them home when I came to visit and she would help me. She did and was, maybe, a little mad.

Why I say that is because her reaction was, "That is your first painting!" It was pretty amazing according to her. My Mom was an amazing influence throughout my life. She always let me explore and be me. My love of art has only grown from there.

I like to watch people when they shoot a picture. For fun, sometimes I show them pictures that I have taken while shooting from the same place. Their reaction is often, "Wow, that is so beautiful. Mine doesn't look like that." My suggestion to them is to see, not just look. The world is a beautiful place with wonderful nuances of light, shadow, and color. All there for us to see and be moved in wonder.
